ECC executed performance-based remedial actions to remove per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), fuel constituents, and chlorinated solvents from soil and groundwater at 28 sites, including 26 Installation Restoration Program (IRP) sites and two Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP) sites, at the Former Wurtsmith AFB, a 4,600-acre Base Realignment and Closure installation. Technologies included air sparging, groundwater pump and treat, insitu chemical oxidation, in-situ bioremediation, engineered wetlands, excavation, landfarming, and biosparging. The PFAS pump and treat system was the first PFAS treatment system successfully designed, built, and operated at a US Air Force IRP site. ECC achieved 7 site closures for unrestricted use; and optimized exit strategies for 15 sites.
